Re-News is the world media cut down, pulped, and recycled.
The growing prevalence of speciality news sources, from liberal blogs to right-wing talk radio, has led to a fragmented media that allows us to become passive consumers of news. No longer burdened with the personal responsibility of discerning meaning and forming opinion based on fair and balanced reportage, we can now, if we so wish, restrict ourselves to a diet of biased reassurance such that no moral ambiguity exists in our political opinions by cherry-picking news sources to suit our political favours.
Re-News distills real content of news by concentrating on quantative measurement, allows comparison of editorial treatment of similar subjects, and reveals sources of news stories only after initial an impression has been made.
Technical Information
A selection of International Edition RSS news feeds are scanned, aggregated, analysed, output and presented according to a quantative algorithm that favours repetition of content. Re-News is built using RSS, PHP, Javascript and HTML.
Credits
Re-News was developed by Emmet Connolly and Musaab Garghouti at m-DAT, and appeared at Submerge 2005.
